September 7, 2007 - Former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge served as a keynote speaker at this year’s annual Ambrosetti Workshop, held at Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como, Italy.
Secretary Ridge discussed the increasing importance of global engagement, greater diplomacy and more focused economic development efforts as leaders work toward a more secure and prosperous world.
“Current challenges are crying out for attention, but also resolution,” said Secretary Ridge. “We as a global community must collectively respond to those needs with an unyielding commitment to address the basic needs of humanity.”
Each year, the Ambrosetti Workshop brings together approximately 200 people, including heads of state, top representatives of European institutions, ministers in office, Nobel laureates, and internationally renowned experts. This year’s attendees included Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic; Shimon Peres, President of Israel; Ana Palacio; SVP and World Bank Group General Counsel; Amr Moussa, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States; Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Deputy President of South Africa; and many more notable figures from around the world.
In addition to forecasts about worldwide economic and political situations, this year’s attendees also analyzed key technological and scientific advances and their effects on the future of business and society.
The Forum, established in 1975, is sponsored by The European House - Ambrosetti, an Italian consulting firm.
