Statement From The Honorable Tom Ridge On Louis Appell

June 29, 2016 (Washington, DC) – The Honorable Tom Ridge today issued the following statement on the death of Louis Appell:

“Pennsylvania lost an iconic civic leader, philanthropist and businessman with the death of Louis Appell. And Michele and I lost a good friend and trusted supporter who was always there for us and for the people of Pennsylvania. Louis was an early supporter in my bid for governor. In fact, the china used at our Inaugural came from his beloved fifth-generation Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff pottery business. A huge supporter of the arts, Louis served on the Governor’s Residence Preservation Committee and played a critical role in its rebirth. But what I’ll remember most about Louis was his zeal for life and his love for his community of York, Pa. Michele and I extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends and all who benefited from his generosity over a long and successful career.”
